My Hong Kong & Macau Trip - Day 2 (Part 1)

5 November, 2007

Today, Shu Yih's aunt spent her morning with us by bringing us to have a breakfast. She is a energetic and talkative person. Never felt bored when she is around. I had a worth-of-money breakfast set with a satay mee, milk tea, 2 pieces of sandwiches, ham and sausage (HKD20 ~ Cheap!). Beside that, we had ordered egg tart and buns.

We decided to eat a lot this morning so that we can save some money to buy food inside Ocean Park later which we thought it will be a lot more expensive, and we were right!

We took bus 629 from Causeway Bay(铜锣湾) straight to Ocean Park. It's took around 30 minutes ride.

Ocean Park 香港海洋公園 is a theme park in the Southern District of Hong Kong Island. The park, ranked 7th in 'The World’s Most Popular Amusement Parks’ by Forbes in June 2006, had 4.38 million visitors in the fiscal year 2005/2006. It covers an area of 870,000 square metres. The different parts of the park are connected by a gondola lift system (or cable car system), as well as the world's second longest outdoor escalatorHere is the theme park. Wanna a roller coaster ride?!This is the world's second longest outdoor escalator.Pacific Pier the home of Califonia sea lions and harbor seals as well as a frolic place. It has said that trainer will introduce their natural behaviors during the feeding sessions. However, the day we went was close for visit. Sad~A amazing bird theatre. The Wiskers theatre presented a drama that reveals a day in the life of sea lions and how they prepare for their show. They are so cute and intelligence! There were a lot of mascots, we only able to catch these two.A view from cable car. We were going to another side of the park.We met with the two famous panda An An, a male, and Jia Jia, a female. They have been kept at Ocean Park, since 1999 when they were bestowed by the Chinese government. After this, we went off by our own. Janice and I went to Aquarium. This is one of the best aquarium. Walking down this 4-level aquarium felt like walking into a deep ocean. It was fascinating with variety of colourful fish and fluoranced Jelly-fish.

We rushed to catch the last Ocean Theatre show at 1700. Luckily we were in time and this was also the place where to meet with other. Their performance really cheer up the evening of tiresome. Bravo!

It almost sunset and is time to leave to park for another destination. I had a wonderful time in Ocean Park. It was like a dream come true as I always dreamed to visit Ocean park since small after watching a HK series. I wonder what will happen to the populararities of this place in the future, as Walt Disney Land is reside on the same land. I believe both have they own uniquely attraction.
Ok, don't think too much. The stomach alarm is rang and it is time for dinner!

My Hong Kong & Macau Trip - Day 1

4 November, 2007
1330
checked-in to a MongKok budget hostel - Dragon Hostel(website:http://www.dragonhostel.com/
). It was less than RM50 per night for ensuite room for 4. What can I say, small spatial yet clean. It's located at a very convenience location: 3 minutes walk to MRT, surrounded by shops and restaurants, a cross road distance to Ladies Market/Woman's Street...etc. Nice!

1500
After self cleaning, time to fill the stomach. Where to eat? Ok, just a few steps away from hostel - 富记粥品. It's served congee! To decided to eat a lot while tour later, so take poridge was not a bad idea. Each of us ordered one flavour and shared among us. Genius!(Click over the picture!)

Yummy~~ It's time to explore!

1600
Two importance spot that we planned to visit were The Avenue of Stars and Temple Street. The Avenue of Stars (Chinese: 星光大道), modelled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, is located along the Victoria Harbour waterfront in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. It honours celebrities of the Hong Kong film industry. A Symphony of Light show start at 2000. Therefore, we have to be there before 8. We have to kill the 4hours at some where else ^O^ No worry! This was expected and where to go? Just follow me. Yes I'm the leader of the trip for this round.

We took MRT to Jordan and have a short distance walk to Bowring Street. According to my information, this is like our "pasar malam" and only open on Sunday. Yes! which is today. So we planned to pay a visit. Nothing special...common things were selling there.
(Right: A snap shot of Bowring Street...and HK citizen)

Unconsciously, we turned in a street which its left and right are Mahjong gambling shops, as well as pubs. So sorry that I don't know how to play mahjong but I know how to shot photo. Besides that, I discovered that most of the cars parked outside are great cars like Merc, BMW...etc. You know what I meant. Ya, rich guys perhaps...
(Left: Mahjong Street, I called it)

Passing the M Street, we came across a soya specialty shop. We looked at each other...wait for what! Come on! Yes we entered it and ordered. They have variety of fruits beancurd jelly and ... bird's nest beancurd jelly??!! Again, each of us ordered one flavour and shared. Another genius idea! So Refreshing.(Right: Variety of mouth watering beancurd jelly...tempted?)

It is almost time to The Avenue of stars. We decided to walk to there through Park Lane Shopper Boulevard. As it named boulevard, branded shops occupied along the "street". Discount! but I bought nothing from there.
I did observed the way of HK youngsters wear. What can I say...handsome and pretty! They really know how to wear lah. Comparitively, I looked bad!

It was a long walk and yet it was only 1900. The destination just in front of us. However, there was a problem...we have came across a big road and it is prohibited to cross as how we normally cross the road. What should we do then? After a search of about five minutes, aha, there is a path way down!So we have to cross the road by going under the road instead. Interesting! The underground path way linked to few hotels and shopping malls.
Finally, the Avenue of Stars. Very windy and cold as it was near winter. We were half an hour earlier before the symphony of light show start. So we killed the time by taking pictures here and there.

The light show started sharp at 2000 and last for about 30 minutes. Frankly speaking, not suprised or amazed me. A lots of laser light shooting here and there. Well, my friend was capture it in video and yet I have no idea where I put it. Blame me!
Here were the pictures we took all the way to The Avenue of Stars.

We have spent almost 3 hours there. It's time to depart to another final destination - temple street - a street located in the areas of Jordan and Yau Ma Tei in Kowloon, Hong Kong. It is well known for its night market and the busiest flea market at night in the territory. Along the way to Temple Street, we stopped at a small and yet well known (according to my information) shop named <利强记北角鸡蛋仔> to taste the common and famous 鸡蛋仔(Egg wafer) and 咖哩鱼蛋(Curry fish ball). Smell and taste good!
Can you spot us?; right top: 鸡蛋仔; right bottom: 咖哩鱼蛋)

Finally we were at temple street. Popular with both tourists and locals alike in the evening, it is common to see the place crowded at dusk. It sells cheap merchandise and food items. The place is sometimes known as Men's Street.
The place was built during the Qing Dynasty and it was named after a temple to Tin Hau was constructed there. It settled at banyan at the middle of the street (the place is called Yung Shue Tau).

This street was lengthier as we thought. Luckily in the middle of Temple Street, there is a famous dessert shop to stop by - 源記 (Yuen-kei, in cantonese) for its famous Sesame Paste 芝麻糊 or Walnut Paste核桃糊. We have ordered Mix Paste 源记渣窄糊 a signature paste of the shop. Delicious!
(Left: Sesame Paste

Pitures taken at Temple Street.

The last MRT to Mongkok is 2345. After the dessert, we have another 30 minutes to catch the train. We went to the nearest Yau Ma Tei(油麻地) station. and headed back to hostel. It has been a tiring day as we walked for long hours.

0000
We called a day for our day 1 trip. Good night!

My Hong Kong & Macau Trip - The Before & Day 1

It has been a while since I went to HK & Macau last year. Well, I only started to write blog half a year after the trip, and couldn't find time to post a blog until now. This is kind of putting old stuff to blog, and yet the memories of the trip still fresh in my mind. As this was a week trip, definitely there were a lot to share and I will share it out...part by part.
This was a wonderful on ground trip of tens. We went to MATTA fair, searched AirAsia fare and finally, we decided to take AirAsia. We did a lot of studying and searching to utilize the time and save budgets. Well, I personally spent RM1.8k for the trip. Hmmm...a bit over budget for me.

Nov 3 2007,
2215
I took AirAsia flight from Penang to KL and slept on a very uncomfortable chairs (ok, ok, I only occupied 3 chairs) of LCCT airport. I'm not alone! A lot people did spent a night in Airport.

Nov 4 2007,
0430
Friends arrived. We took breakfast at McD first and wait till 0630 for check-in counter open.

0815
Flight took off. Here we go! Macau we are coming!...Then fall asleep during the flight...

1020
Excited! Flight has landed at Macau airport. Two things that everyone need to know when travel are...Please have your form filled completely, and then run or walk as quickly as possible, the registration counters always have a long queue. That's the thing I hate the most.
This is the airport's lobby. Clean! We were taking bus to Jetty(Terminal Maritimo) instead of cab as it was cheaper, MOP3.30 + MOP6 per luggage. There is a special space for luggage inside the bus. Cool!
1130
Reach Jetty. Shoot! 1145 session to HK closed. Luckily it was 15 minutes per session. Well, we bought 12 noon TurboJet.
1300
Reached HK Island(香港岛). Thought to have a lunch first, however it was wise to check-in luggages. Miscalculated. we have to spent more for MRT fare from HK Island to MongKok(旺角). If not, we can stop at Kowloon(九龙)instead.
we have spent almost half an hour to search for our dwelling place. We kept walk round and round the area based on address we have. Where is it "hide"? Fortunately, we met a good-hearted man guiding us to the exact place. What!It was a few steps away only and yet we can't find it. Shoot!
After saying "多谢" to the man, we felt meeting the good-hearted man at the first day of arriving in HK is a good sign that we going to have a wonderful trip this time!

Places Phone Directory

Most of my friends always come to me and ask for restaurant phone number for reservation (but they never invite me for a meal...sad!). Haha! not a big deal :P
However, I always facing one "major" problem...I need to flip here, flip there to look for the phone number. Where did I put the name card?
*blink* *blink* Don't you think it is good idea to have a directory on a blog?

粉色:祈祝母亲永远美丽年轻;
白色:纯洁的爱,纯洁的友谊;
黄色:代表对母亲的感激之情;

Lang Tengah
